Frustratingly the ability to add your own objects to the BBC/British Museum's new initiative - history of the world in 100 objects seems to be broken.
My suggestion was for the HTML tag - created by Tim Berners Lee in 1991-2. For me it heralded the beginning of the virtual object - a new reality to challenge the limitations of meaning and exchange through physical objects and immediate social interactions. Even the word 'object' means something very different on the internet, but it performs fundamentally the same purpose - the creation and exchange of knowledge and meaning between individuals.
However, it seems that 'the computer says, NO!' is the answer to my suggestion.
